GREENFIELD, Ind. (WISH) – A driver died in a frontal crash involving two cars near Greenfield Friday afternoon, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department said Friday evening.
The driver’s name was withheld until the family was notified until Saturday.
MPs were called to the area near the intersection of County Road 200 North and Sugar Creek Trail, about a mile west of Greenfield, on Friday at around 5:45 p.m.
The Hancock County fatal accident team learned that the driver in a 2016 Nissan Altima traveling east on 200 North was alone when the passenger-side wheels left the road and reached the end of a guardrail. This impact forced the Nissan onto the path of a 2012 Volkswagen Passat, which was driven by Ruthie Gregory (64) from Shirley. The cause of the crash was not immediately known, the sheriff’s department said in a press release, and it was not known whether drugs and alcohol were factors.
Gregory drove her husband Donald Gregory (73). An ambulance took her to hospital for injuries that were not believed to be life threatening. The Gregorys worked with investigators.
County Road 200 North has been closed for about three hours due to the investigation.
