CARMEL, Ind. (AP) – A falling tree killed a New Yorker during a thunderstorm in suburban Indianapolis, police said.
Forty-year-old Elias Smith from New York suffered multiple injuries from the falling tree at around 10:45 p.m. Saturday and was pronounced dead at the scene, the Carmel Police Department said.
Witnesses said Smith was trying to escape the storm when the tree fell and hit him, police said.
Authorities received numerous reports of fallen trees in the area where the tree hit Smith, police said.
