GARY, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – Indiana’s newest land-based casino celebrates its grand opening on Friday. The $ 300 million Hard Rock Casino in Northern Indiana will open its doors after a Guitar Smash event featuring celebrities such as Native Gary Tito, Jackie and Marlon Jackson.
Plans for the Gary Casino have been in the works since early 2019 when Governor Eric Holcomb signed a bill to move the two Majestic Star riverboat casinos to a land-based facility. The foundation stone for the new casino was laid in January 2020.
The 200,000 square foot casino offers more than 1,600 slot machines and 80 table games. It also includes five dining options, an on-site sportsbook, retail store, and a nearly 2,000-seat Hard Rock Live venue.
The Guitar Smash will include Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy and Mark McGrath, singer of the rock band Sugar Ray.
The event marks the conclusion of the first phase of development. According to Hard Rock, a 200-room hotel and multi-level parking garage will be added in Phase 2, although no construction schedule has been given.
