CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) – The two owners of the House of Soul Cafe say they are still getting used to the positive feedback the new restaurant has received lately.
“It was phenomenal to see people flock to our Carmel location since we’ve only been in business for two months,” said co-owner and chef David Brown. “It was phenomenal, man.”
Adam Belt, leaving Captain Adam, is a pilot while Brown is retired from the military. The two bonded, especially when cooking soul food. All of Indiana’s Randall Newsome asked Belt which owner was the best in the kitchen.
“We’re the same,” said Belt. “Many of our recipes are the same.”
In November they discussed making the dream come true.
“Ninety days after that conversation, we were ready to go,” said Brown.
In just a few months, people in Indianapolis have been talking about their first House of Soul Cafe. The menu includes what is known as “fast, casual Mediterranean cuisine”.
“The catfish is a dream,” said Brown. “I think we have some of the best catfish in town.”
The duo say they received an overwhelming reception in the city of Carmel on opening day.
“Outside, people were lining up and waiting in line on the sidewalk. The parking lot was full, ”recalled Belt. “I just said to myself, ‘Everyone is here to have a house of soul. ‘It felt good. “
“Seeing 400 people in the parking lot and seeing the Mayor of Carmel come out was phenomenal,” added Brown.
