INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A winter storm warning applies to most of Indiana through Tuesday morning for moderate to heavy snowfall.
TODAY: The clouds increase in the course of the evening and it gets cold with lows close to 10. Tonight, snow develops in the night and continues into the first part of Monday morning.
MONDAY: The first of two snow waves comes during the morning commute. About 1-3 “will fall late Sunday evening and early Monday morning. Look for slippery spots on the streets.
The snow tapers by mid-morning. We will pause for a few hours before the second and stronger wave enters the state.
By lunch, the next batch of snow is moving into the state. This snowfall is moderate to heavy, and intense snowfall rates of an inch per hour can sometimes occur. Winds increase and can gust nearly 20 miles an hour at times. This creates drifts and drifts of snow that impair visibility. The total snowfall accumulation will be between 8 and 11 inches across the state. The highs remain in the middle to upper teens.
MONDAY NIGHT: The snow finally winds from late Monday evening to early Tuesday morning. It will be cold and airy with lows in the single digits.
TUESDAY: Some storms may be possible in the early hours of Tuesday. It remains cloudy and cold with elevations close to 20.
8-DAY FORECAST: Temperatures will rise in the middle of the weekend into the 20s. Another storm system looks like it will go in that direction late Wednesday night through Thursday. The trace and intensity of this system is a little early to tell. However, be prepared for another chance of snow on Thursday. Temperatures will rise again into the 30s for the next weekend.
