NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Sarah Fuller, the first woman to score in a Power Five conference soccer game, was invited to the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden on Wednesday.
“It is an honor to be invited to partake in one of America’s greatest traditions,” Fuller wrote on social media on Sunday.
“This historic inauguration is particularly significant for American women and girls. The glass ceilings are breaking, ”she added, including the Twitter handles for Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, who will be the first woman to hold office – Biden and her opening committee.
Attendance at the inauguration is due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the security measures put in place after a violent mob backing President Donald Trump entered the U.S. Capitol on January 6 as Congress certified Biden’s victory , strictly restricted.
Fuller helped Vanderbilt win the Southeastern Conference women’s soccer tournament as a goalkeeper. She helped the soccer team deal with COVID-19 issues.
She was the first woman to play with a Squib kick in a Power Five game on November 28 to open the second half of a loss in Missouri, the only time she was on the field in that game. She got another chance on December 12, when Vanderbilt only had 49 scholarship recipients for his game against Tennessee.
Fuller, listed as the second of three available kickers on the depth map, came out for the extra point that brought the game to 7 1:50 in the first quarter. She converted her second point after that with 7:22 in the fourth quarter of the 42-17 defeat.
