INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – An Indianapolis police officer on his way to work beat and killed a pregnant woman who was walking on an expressway ramp, police said Thursday.
Officer Jonathon Henderson, a 22-year-old veteran, hit the woman on the ramp to Interstate 465 in southwest town at around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
Police said Henderson asked for help and provided first aid to the woman, who the Marion County coroner office identified as 23-year-old Ashlynn Lisby. She was pronounced dead in a hospital. Her fetus did not survive either.
Henderson had a blood drawn, but investigators don’t believe the driver’s impairment was a factor in the accident, police said.
Earlier Wednesday in Indianapolis, a police officer fatally shot and killed a black man after what appeared to be a chase was partially captured on a Facebook live video. And early Thursday, Indianapolis police shot and killed another man while investigating a break-in in an apartment complex.
