GARY, Ind. (AP / WISH) – Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez and Indiana State Police say one of his officers was shot in Gary and returned fire, beat and killed the suspect.
The sheriff asked for assistance from State Police, who reported that the shooting occurred around noon in a house on the 600 block on Hanley Street.

The Lake County MP was shot and taken to Northlake Methodist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The resident of the house, a man in his twenties, was also shot in and taken to the Northlake Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. “
