Andrew Pierce, senior Daily Mail editor, urges outrage to question Meghan Markle’s race

WPA Pool / Getty Images Meghan Markle is expected to speak about racism in Britain in her conversation with Oprah Winfrey, which aired on Sunday, the British journalist and frequent critic of Meghan Markle is under fire after launching an extraordinary and racist attack on her which he apparently indicated that he found her “attractive”, which meant that she could not have been a victim of racism. Andrew Pierce, a senior editor for the Daily Mail who is a regular guest on UK television and radio shows, hosted a talk radio show on Wednesday when a caller suggested that Meghan was never “fully accepted” because of the color of her skin. Pierce, who is white, replied, “Oh God, that again! Do you look at her … and do you see a black woman? Because I don’t. I see a very attractive, a very attractive woman. It never crossed my mind. I never look at her and think, “Gosh, she’s black!” In the way you look at Oprah Winfrey, you would be in no doubt. If you sit down and do the interview, you will see a black woman named Oprah Winfrey and a woman who describes [herself] as a woman of color. Her mother is black, of course she comes from a mixed family. But I just don’t think people look at Meghan and think, “Oh, I hate her for the color of her skin.” I don’t see it i don’t buy it. “Just a reminder of who Andrew Pierce is … (sound on) pic.twitter.com/wUKq6deFAY – Royal Suitor (@royal_suitor) March 3, 2021 In his testimony, Pierce uses colorism – the concept that Markle because she has a lighter complexion, cannot be a victim of racism. Instead, he compares her to Oprah Winfrey, implying that the media mogul’s darker skin tone is not seen as attractive as her features are predominantly black. This was the case with a number of famous women. Michelle Obama constantly endured negative feedback about her appearance before her husband even officially took his place in the White House. By highlighting Markle’s lighter skin, Pierce not only diminishes her experiences, but perpetuates misconceptions about racism. Pierre, a frequent critic of Markle, was a guest on the British television show Good Morning Britain earlier in the day. The segment he appeared in was criticized for having five white men talking about Meghan. Pierce attacked Meghan on the show as hypocritical for allegedly bullying employees at Buckingham Palace and attacked her later that day on Twitter for wearing jewelry given as a gift from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. # Meghan wore diamonds from the Saudi Crown Prince for 3 weeks says @thetimes after ordering #JamalKhashoggi’s murder, it’s not just appalling timing why she’s taking diamonds from Saudi Arabia which treat women as 3rd grade citizens. So much for her global equality campaign – Andrew Pierce (@toryboypierce) March 3, 2021 Pierce’s shocking comments, which seemed to question Meghan’s race based on her looks, echo an insightful article Markle wrote for Elle magazine in 2015 The race made it difficult for her to break through in Hollywood: “I wasn’t black enough for the black roles and I wasn’t white enough for the white ones, so I was left somewhere in the middle as an ethnic chameleon who couldn’t book a job. “She added,” To be biracial paints a fuzzy line that wobbles and illuminates in equal parts. “While my mixed heritage may have created a gray area around my self-identification that keeps me one foot on either side of the fence I’ve come to embrace that. To say who I am, to share where I am from, to express my pride in being a strong, confident, mixed race woman. “On Martin Luther King Day 2016, Markle published a moving piece on her now closed blog The Tig, which explored the overt and covert racism that she and her family have experienced throughout their lives. Pierre’s remarks have sparked outraged comments on social media. Meghan had to deal with that. Hear how Andrew Pierce defines the attractiveness and diversity of a black woman. It shows Meghan accusing the British royal family of upholding “untruths” about her and her husband. Winfrey asks, “How do you feel about the palace when you tell your truth today?” Markle replies, “I don’t know how to expect that after all this time we would still be silent if The Firm played an active role in perpetuating falsehoods about us. And if there is a risk of losing things, then a lot has already been lost. “Royals often use the term“ The Firm ”to refer to the monarchy.
