INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The American Legion Post No. 34 invites the community to start their fundraising campaign for the Cool Bus fall festival.
The Legion is celebrating a new effort to fight hunger in Indianapolis’ food deserts, areas with restricted access to food vendors.
The Cool Bus is a mobile pantry with the aim of offering people with restricted access to food high quality fresh products, meat and other groceries. Jeff Piper, a volunteer with Veterans Industries and Arts, says that the food on the bus is also made by local veterans, while the pantry is used as a job for veterans.
Kerry Turney, commander of the Robert E. Kennington American Legion post at 2210 E. 54th St., says visitors will try “the best barbecue in town.”
The nonprofits try to raise funds while people enjoy music, food, and a silent auction during the festival’s fundraiser. Live bands will perform from 2pm on Saturday as the Legion and Veterans Industries and Arts try to raise awareness. A special guest will perform at 7:00 p.m. The event is free to attend, but the organizations are asking for donations from the community.
All proceeds go towards the launch of The Cool Bus.
